Kyle
began his racing career at age 8 behind the wheel of a quarter midget.
He had well over 80 wins, fast time awards and numerous track records
to his credit. Kyle went on to win the Pennsylvania state race and
Sponsor Cup in 1996. Then in 1997, Kyle placed 2nd in the Eastern
Grand Nationals. By August of 1999 Kyle moved up the the new 600cc
Micro-sprint Division.
During the 2000 season Kyle grabbed 5 checkered
flags for "A Feature" wins and finished second in points
at Trail-way Speedway
in Hanover, PA.
Kyle's success continued in 2001, where he started
the season winning the Winter Nationals at Orange County Speedway
in Florida. Kyle won 10 "A Feature" events during the course
of the 2001 season. This included winning the Coors Light Kevin Gobrecht
National Open at Trail-way and just missed the championship title
at Path Valley Speedway in
Western PA.
In 2002 Kyle drove the family owned sprinter. We
had a good sponsor that helped us along the way, Joe Michalski Heating
and Air Conditioning from Penndel, PA. Joe and Barb helped us out
quite bit with purchasing tires for our team and what ever else we
needed. We also got a great deal of assistance from Jim and Ray Dunkley
throughout the season. We ran Selinsgrove
Speedway in 2002, first time Kyle drove his '99 Maxim chassis
with a Chevy motor he won. Our goal that evening was just to hopefully
be in the A-main, not win it! It was awesome, little did Kyle realize
what great shoes he had behind him. Jimmy Nace and Craig Eshnaur.
Kyle finished the season up at Selinsgrove 9th in the Championship
race. And Kyle also got awarded "Sportsman of the Year"
at Selinsgrove. Kyle had 3 heat wins, 1 win, 6 top fives and 9 top
10's for the season.
During mid season July 2003, Dave and Heather Trutt came
and spoke to us. They were looking to start their own sprint car team
for the following season and wanted a young upcoming driver, so they
chose Kyle. But when Dave chose Kyle for the team, he told Kyle that
he wanted to be different from the other teams. His plan and dream
was to run a Mopar. So we got engine builder Jim Dunkley from speed
equipment in Bensalem to build our Mopar. Since this was our research
and development year Dave's expectations weren't too high, but the
goal was to finish in the top 10 in points and maybe get rookie of
the year out at Williams Grove Speedway. Since we only ran 3 shows
in 2002 and were eligible for the title. Kyle finished 7th in points
out at Selinsgrove Speedway. He had 6 heat wins and 2 wins 7 top 5's
and 12 top 10's.
Just two months into the 2004 season, and no success,
Kyle vacated his ride in the Dave's Lawn Care #64K. Kyle soon began
attending United Racing Club events. Even though he would not turn
18 until August, his reputation as a driver earned him some attention.
One night, URC car owner Tom Buch of Brownstown Motorsports called
Kyle up to see if he wanted to drive one of his cars in a URC event
at Lincoln Speedway on June 19th. The offer was only supposed to be
seven races, however; his 13th-place finish and award for Hard Charger
of the race was impressive enough to warrant a full season in the
#13Jr 360 Sprint. Kyle competed in the rest of the URC schedule, which
consisted of 17 races. Motor problems throughout the remaining season
halted several strong runs. But by years end, he went on to capture
two more Hard Charger Awards, 4-top tens, 1-heat win, and impressive
6th and 12th place finishes respectively in challenge races at Susquehanna
and Rolling Wheels Speedway. More importantly, he was honored the
URC Rookie of the Year. When his schedule permitted, Kyle also ran
his family-owned 358 sprint during the URC off-weeks. Running at Selinsgrove
and Williams Grove Speedways, he earned 3-heat wins, 4-top tens, and
a feature victory at the prestigious Williams Grove.
Going into the 2005 season as reigning URC Rookie of the Year, Kyle
and the entire KDP Motorsports team are entering the year with high
expectations. Kyle will be piloting the family-owned #64K 360-sprint
with the United Racing Club in 2005.
